Decision: made. What did I do next?

February 25 2024

It's July of 2021 and I just had my first introduction to the I.T. field: a dry and monotonous A+ certification video lesson that was siphoning my excitement and enthusiasm by the second. How could so many people be so wrong about I.T.? This was not going to work for me. I went back to the drawing board (Reddit) in search of a way forward. And I found it.

So many posts were recommending Professor Messer and Jason Dion videos that I knew I had to give their content a chance. What else did I have to do, anyways? Not much! Thankfully, Professor Messer's videos are freely available on YouTube, so there was no barrier to entry. Suddenly the previously-uninteresting topics were much more palatable. The lessons were beginner-friendly, well explained, and upbeat. For the rest of that summer and early fall I spent an ever-increasing percentage of my free time consuming as much of Professor Messer's video lessons as I could handle. By the end of September I had passed both cores of CompTIA's A+ exams and was officially A+ certified! I'm thankful that I spent as much time preparing for those exams as I did, because having my hard work pay off really gave me the momentum to jump straight into the next certification in the CompTIA "Trifecta", Network+.

If you're reading this and looking for some free video material to help you get started with your studies, please give Professor Messer a chance. You will not regret it!
